FSUSA Marion, IL Retreat
V1
I was a country boy, grew up on a farm
Drivin trucks and tractors throwin hay in the barn
Couldn’t wait to turn 18 and join the military
I signed up my senior year
Couldn’t wait to get outta here
and I volunteered for the Infantry
Chorus
They sent me down…to Ft. Benning
And the rest of my life was…just beginning
I just played the cards I was dealt
The Ar-my became my career
I proudly served for 22 years
I belonged to something bigger than myself
V2
I held life and death in my hands
In the mountains of Afghanistan
Pinned down by the Taliban in a firefight
You’re not thinkin ‘bout yourself
When you only got seven bullets left
It’s all about the guy on your left and right
Chorus
I knew back…at Ft. Benning
That the rest of my life was just beginning
I just played the cards I was dealt
The Army became my career
I proudly served for 22 years
I belonged to something bigger than myself
Bridge
My last tour in Afghanistan
I came home a different man
Chorus
I knew back at Ft. Benning
That the rest of my life was just beginning
I just played the cards I was dealt
The Army became my career
I proudly served for 22 years
I belonged to something bigger than myself
Yeah, I belonged to something bigger than myself
