I joined the National Guard after flunking out of school
A Captain of men in combat boots
We were celebrated when we left the first from where I came
To go to war for the red, white, and blue

151 were under my command
In Iraq running those Baghdad streets
I loved those boys like I love my own that I’ve got now
And all but one got safely home with me

CHORUS
I wear a metal bracelet on my wrist that bears his name
He volunteered to drive on that mission
150 of my boys who served are still around
But I miss that one in 151
Sgt Brian Romines was just shy of 21
When a roadside bomb claimed his life so young
The unit hitched his truck up finished the job they had to do
150 of 151

Chorus
24 years I served and not a day goes by
I don’t think about what more I could have done
I’m grateful that I didn’t lose more young men in that fight
Just 1 shy of 151

When we got back I dismissed those boys who’d done me proud
And thanked them all for everything they’d done
150 caps tossed into the air oh but what I’d give
If there had somehow been 151

Tag
What I’d give
If he had lived
And I’d have gotten home
With 151

Still miss that one
